Accredited Detection Dog Team Training

CAPE provides an Accredited Detection Dog Team Training Programme designed to develop reliable detection dog teams for professional operational environments.

THE PROGRAMME

How Our Accredited Training Programme Works

CAPE’s Accredited Detection Dog Team Training Programme follows a clearly defined curriculum and assessment framework, rather than relying on fast-tracking or experience-based shortcuts.

Each handler and dog is trained and assessed together as a single operational team. This approach ensures consistency, quality and professional standards across all CAPE affiliated teams.

Our two stage progression model takes teams from foundation capability through to full operational accreditation, ensuring dependable performance in operational environments.

FOUNDATION PROGRAMME

Stage 1: CAPE Detection Dog Team Foundation Course

The Foundation Programme establishes a consistent baseline for all detection dog teams, regardless of prior experience. It develops the essential learning theory, search structure, handling skill and behavioural clarity required before any operational odours are introduced.

Key Points:

Candidates who complete this stage achieve CAPE Detection Dog Team – Foundation Certification. Teams are not yet operational, and progression is based strictly on assessment.

ADVANCED ACCREDITATION

Stage 2: Operational Accreditation Modules

Once the Foundation Programme is completed, teams may progress to sector specific Operational Accreditation Modules. These modules transition candidates from technical competence to operational readiness through live environment training and realistic deployment scenarios.

Key Points:

Affiliate Status:

Teams that successfully complete both stages may be invited to join the CAPE Affiliate Detection Team Scheme, operating under CAPE’s methodologies and quality assurance processes.

Completion of the programme does not guarantee affiliation or contract work.
